Matthew is a third-year mechanical engineering student at Cal State Long Beach. He works on multiple interdisciplinary projects, some of which are Dr. Stout's: ranging from bioprinting design, to kinematic design of complex mechanisms. Matt is also a part of both Theta Chi & CSULB's Society of Automotive Engineers. He currently works as a Mechanical Lab Aide at Physical Optics Corporation in Torrance, CA. IN his spare time, Matt likes to volunteer in the off-road racing scene as a Pit Crew member for the #12 Trophy Truck of Team Orbit Racing. Occasionally, he likes to drive his classic cars, along with sharpening his skills in Computer-Aided Design for future research-based mechanical design projects.
Major: Molecular Cell Biology and Physiology, B.S. Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2019
Alejandra’s goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. She is currently working to develop a collagen matrix with embedded graphene coded yarn that will help with the regeneration of cardiomyocytes that have been damaged after a heart attack. The ultimate goal is to reduce the increasing population size of cardiovascular disease. She is part of Hermanas Unidas and the UROP program here at Cal State Long Beach. Other than working in the lab she loves hanging out with her family and friends. She loves singing along to music during car rides with her best friend (Vanessa) and going to six flags.
Major: Physics, B.S. Expected Graduation Date: May 2018
Jake Fallon is currently a senior and pursuing his B.S. in Physics at CSULB. He started to be involved on campus by joining Sigma Chi to pursue leadership opportunities and personal growth, along with being active in philanthropic events for Lupus and Cancer. Currently, Jacob works with Ajay Shirolkar and Dr. Stout. He is involved in the field of Nanotechnology, along with aiding Ajay in his thesis involving Cardiovascular tissue engineering and their material characteristics. He would like to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and help eliminate pathogenic diseases that affect millions of people worldwide. In his free time, Jacob likes to eat food, travel, and explore the outside world.
Major: Biomedical Engineering, B.S. Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2019
Edgar Cubillo is biomedical engineering student at CSULB with an expected graduation date in 2019. Afterwards, Edgar would like to pursue a PhD in Tissue Engineering. His research revolves around gaining a better understanding of the process in which pancreatic mice iselets are encapsulated by mimicking several models and possible modifications to these methods that can hopefully improve the life-span and functionality of transported pancreatic mice iselets to move who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Edgar is part of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers club here at Cal State Long Beach and hobbies that include working out, hiking, and playing guitar.
Major: Biomedical Engineering, B.S. Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2018
